She was born in a balanced multicultural community. Her interest in music came to light when she was in high school. Tiwa played trombone in a local orchestral ensemble during her school years. She performed the backup vocals for iconic singer George Michael when she was just seventeen years old and lent her vocals to popular musicians such as Mary J. Blinge, Kelly Clarkson, Andrea Bocelli and others. In the same stage she also performed with the world-renowned musicians including Robbie Williams, Eminem, Poison, The Black Eyed Peas, Destiny ‘s Child, and 50 Cent.
Tiwa Savage also made time for her education – she graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Kent, and was then offered a position at the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Tiwa Savage became a student of the Berklee College of Music after some years of her job at the bank. By the time she was 27 she graduated. As Tiwa recalled, the enthusiasm of students who were younger than her really inspired her.
She also said the school’s environment was great, and it was really the first step on her path to the music industry. Tiwa was a contestant of the UK edition of the X Factor in 2006 but failed to reach the final twelve. Tiwa remembered it as a difficult time, but she was also advised to be strong and not break down.
Tiwa Savage got lucky when she signed with Sony in 2009 to a lucrative music deal. This provided her with the opportunity to write music for artists such as Kat Deluna, Monica, Babyface, Mya, and Fantasia Barrino. Her work on her album “Collard Greens & Cornbread” with Fantasia Barrino has won her a Grammy nomination. She even had the chance to perform background vocals for an album by Whitney Houston.
